Creating volumes on your Synology NAS in Stratocast™ - Stratocast™

Before adding a NAS volume for your Synology DiskStation NAS to Stratocast™, you must create the volume in your Synology software application.

To create a volume on your Synology DiskStation NAS:

1. Using the IP address, connect to your Synology DiskStation NAS and log in.
2. Open Storage Manager.

   

3. Click the Volume tab and then click Create to start the creation wizard.
4. Select Custom and then click Next.
5. Select Multiple Volumes on RAID and then click Next.
   Choosing this option gives you more flexibility and allows you to create multiple volumes on a single NAS. As a result, you can then store recordings from multiple video units on a single NAS, as long as it is one video unit per NAS volume.
6. Create a new disk group or choose an existing one if one has already been created. If you create a new disk group, follow the onscreen instructions to select the required hard disks and RAID type.
7. In the Allocate volume capacity page, set the storage capacity of the NAS volume.
   IMPORTANT: To ensure that your video recordings are kept for the duration of their respective retention periods, and that storage space is used efficiently, it is recommended to properly calculate the storage space that you need for each NAS volume that you create.
8. Repeat these steps to create additional NAS volumes.

Once a NAS volume has been created, create a shared folder on the volume as follows:

1. Click Main Menu > Control Panel > Shared Folder.
2. Enter a unique name for the shared folder. This is the shared folder name that you must specify when adding the NAS volume to Stratocast™.
   IMPORTANT: You must only define one shared folder per NAS volume, and the name of the shared folder must be unique.
3. In the Location drop-down list, select the NAS volume that the shared folder is located in. Each shared folder you create must be assigned to a NAS volume.

   

4. Click OK.
