Before creating a NAS volume for your Synology DiskStation NAS, you must install the NAS.

Before you begin

Designate a dedicated NAS for Stratocast™—one that is used solely to store your video recordings. Having a dedicated NAS ensures that you get accurate storage estimates of the hard disk on your NAS, and that you do not risk deleting other personal files that are not related to Stratocast™.

What you should know

Although you can add a NAS volume for whichever Synology NAS you want, only the DS214 has been tested and is fully supported by Stratocast™. For the latest information about your Synology NAS, refer to the Synology website and the product documentation that is provided with your device.
You can install DiskStation Manager in one of the following ways:
  • From the Internet
  • From the installation CD

Procedure

To install your DiskStation NAS from the Internet:

  1. Power on the DiskStation NAS and connect it to the Internet.
  2. If you have Internet access, go to find.synology.com. If you do not have Internet access, enter diskstation:5000 in your browser.
  3. Click Connect and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

To install your DiskStation NAS from the installation CD:

  1. Insert the installation CD, and click Start to install the Synology Assistant and Data Replicator.
Once the NAS is discovered, DiskStation appears in the Synology Assistant window.
  2. Right-click on DiskStation and click Install.
