Before you can monitor variable message signs in Security Center, you must configure your DMS entity's display settings.
Procedure
- From the Config Tool home page, open the Area view task.
- From the entity tree, select your DMS entity.

Click the Display tab and set your display settings:
Tip: To test communication between the plugin and your sign, select Suggested values. If the communication was successful, the values in the Dimensions field change.
You can also select Suggested values to set the recommended settings for dimensions and spacing.
- Technology
- Choose from the following options depending on the type of variable message sign you
are using:
- Full matrix: Entire sign is a single dot matrix display.
- Line matrix: Each line is a full dot matrix display.
- Character matrix: Each character has its own matrix.
- Dimensions
- Set the height and width of your sign.
- Spacing
- Set the spacing in pixels between lines and between characters.
To use the line and character spacing settings of the font you upload to the sign, select Use font spacing.
- Max. pages
- The maximum number of pages that the sign can display.
A sign displays all of its activated messages until it reaches its maximum number of pages. When the number of message pages activated on a sign exceeds this number, the sign displays messages with a higher rank.
- Limit rows
- Limit the number of rows of text a sign can display.
- Supports graphics
- If your sign supports graphics, enable this option.NOTE: Michat and Dak2052 signs do not support graphics.
- Has beacons
- If you sign has beacons, enable this option.
- Supports font configuration
- Toggles the Fonts tab in the DMS entity. This feature is disabled by default for signs that do not support custom fonts.
- Font
- Set the sign's default font.
- Color
- Set the default colors for the sign's private message library.NOTE: Shared library messages with more colors than the sign's color scheme allows can still be activated on the sign.
- Color scheme: Determines your options for the other color settings.
- Font color: Color of the text displayed.
- Background color: Color of the background displayed.
- Default justification
- Default justification of the message text.
- Default alignment
- Default alignment of the message text. This can only be configured if your sign is using a full matrix display.
- Page on time (tenths)
- Time that each page is displayed.
- Page off time (tenths)
- Time that no message is displayed.
- Beacon color
- Color of your sign's beacon, if beacons are enabled.
- Grid color
- Color of the grid.
- Grid width
- Width of the grid in pixels.
- Aspect ratio
- Dimensions of the pixels.
- Pixel shape
- Shape of the pixel.
- Click Apply.

From the entity tree, right-click your DMS entity and select Put
Online.
NOTE: If communication with the sign is unsuccessful, troubleshoot the communication issue.
After you finish
- Configure additional settings on your entity.
- Create and activate messages on your sign.
