Before you can monitor variable message signs in Security Center, you must configure your DMS entity's network settings.

What you should know

If you are configuring a Daktronics DF parking sign as a DMS entity, see Configuration for Daktronics DF parking signs.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool home page, open the Area view task.
  2. From the entity tree, select your DMS entity, and click the Network tab.
  3. If you have a direct link to your sign controller, set the Control mode option to Direct and configure your network settings:
    NOTE: This control method is the standard NTCIP protocol.
    IP address
    IP address of the variable message sign.
    Port
    Port of the variable message sign.
    Community
    Password to access the variable message sign.
    SNMP version
    SNMP version used to communicate with the sign.
    Communication timeout
    Time after which the system considers communication with the sign to be lost. The default value is 5 seconds.
    Communication retries
    Number of times that the system tries to get communication back with the device after a communication timeout. The default value is 2.
    Communication loss timeout
    If the system is unable to poll the sign for the time set here, the sign goes blank. This is enabled by default. The default value is 5 minutes.
    Polling
    Polling interval in seconds. This is enabled by default. The default value is 30 seconds.
    Requires space when blanking
    If your sign model requires spaces in the blanking message, enable this option. This setting must be applied if you are using an LEDYears sign.
    Use Unicode
    Assigns a unique number for every character. This is disabled by default.
    Inter-command delay
    Time between commands sent to the sign. The default value is 0 seconds.
    Message table index
    Index for DMS messages stored on the sign.
  4. If you are using an External Xml control system to connect to your sign, set the Control mode option to External Xml File and configure your network settings:
    External ID
    ID of the DMS entity as configured in your external control system.
    Polling
    Polling interval in seconds. This is enabled by default. The default value is 30 seconds.
    Requires space when blanking
    If your sign model requires spaces in the blanking message, enable this option. LEDYears signs require spaces in blanking messages.
    Use Unicode
    Assigns a unique number for every character. This is disabled by default.
  5. If you are using an External Rest control system to connect to your sign, set the Control mode option to External Rest and configure your network settings:
    IP address
    IP address of the variable message sign.
    Port
    Port of the variable message sign.
    Community
    Password to access the variable message sign.
    SNMP version
    SNMP version used to communicate with the sign.
    Communication timeout
    Time after which the system considers communication with the sign to be lost. The default value is 5 seconds.
    Communication retries
    Number of times that the system tries to get communication back with the device after a communication timeout. The default value is 2.
    Polling
    Polling interval in seconds. This is enabled by default. The default value is 30 seconds.

  6. Click Apply.
