[KBA-76691] Security Desk stops responding and shows Genetec.MediaComponent32.exe errors in the Windows Event Viewer

This article explains why Security Desk might hang or stop responding, and show Genetec.MediaComponent32.exe errors in the Windows Event Viewer.

Symptoms

Security Desk hangs or stops responding.

If this issue occurs, you see the following Genetec.MediaComponent32.exe errors in the Windows Event Viewer:

A Memory Dump is also created and saved to C:\Program Files (x86)\Genetec Security Center 5.x\Dumps.

Cause

A code change causes this issue.

Workaround

None

Status

This issue is resolved in the following versions:
  • Security Center 5.4 SR3 Cu10 and later
  • Security Center 5.5 SR5 Cu5 and later
  • Security Center 5.6 SR1 CU1 and later
NOTE: After upgrading, you must delete dump files created in C:\Program Files (x86)\Genetec Security Center 5.x\Dumps.
