Using the SNMP Manager plugin, you can use Security Center to collect and organize information about devices that support Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Devices that support SNMP include cameras, routers, switches, servers, workstations, printers and more.

After you have installed the SNMP Manager plugin, you can:
  • Poll SNMP devices to obtain information about its various properties.
  • Configure rules to raise a custom event or alarm when a specific change in value is detected on a device property.
  • Receive SNMP trap and SNMP inform messages when an event occurs on an SNMP device.
NOTE: These messages are similar, however an SNMP inform message requires acknowledgement. SNMP Manager handles the acknowledgement of SNMP informs for the user, therefore the plugin categorizes them both as device events.
  • Configure rules to raise a custom event or alarm when an SNMP trap or SNMP inform message is received.
If you have a camera that supports SNMP, when SNMP Manager polls the device, one of the properties that it will check is the on-board fan. The value of this property will either be ok or failure. By configuring a rule based on a change to this value, a custom event or alarm can be triggered in Security Center if the value of property is failure when the device is polled.

If you want to avoid polling the camera, you can set an SNMP trap that will detect if the value of the on-board fan property changes from ok to failure. By configuring a rule based on a change to this value, a custom event or alarm can be triggered in Security Center if the value of the property changes to failure.
