The SNMP Manager plugin is a software module that integrates your SNMP devices into Security Center.

Architecture diagram for SNMP Manager integration

An XML mapping file defines the properties of your SNMP devices. After these properties have been added to Security Center, information about them can be obtained by polling the SNMP device. When polled, the SNMP device checks object identifiers (OIDs) of properties to see if there is a change in value. Rules can be configured to raise a custom event or alarm when a specific change in value occurs on a property.

SNMP traps and informs are set up manually in Security Center, or imported from an MIB file that is provided by the device manufacturer. Once they have been added in Security Center, rules can be configured to raise a custom event or alarm when a specific change in value occurs on a property.

Components of SNMP Manager integration

SNMP Manager plugin
The SNMP Manager plugin is installed on a Security Center server and runs as a plugin role.
Config Tool
The SNMP Manager plugin is also installed on a Config Tool workstation. The Security Center administrator uses Config Tool to create and configure the plugin role.
Security Desk
The SNMP Manager plugin is installed on all Security Desk workstations. Security Desk operators can monitor SNMP devices.
SNMP Devices
Managed devices on IP networks that contain SNMP agents. These agents provide information about the device, which is communicated to Security Center users through the SNMP Manager plugin.
