[KBA-78940] Mercury EP1502 controllers and MR52 panels stop working after being powered by 24 VDC

This article explains why some Mercury EP1502 controllers and MR52 interface modules stop working after being powered by 24 VDC for the first time.

Symptoms

Some EP1502 controllers and MR52 panels fail the first time you power them up, if they are being powered by 24 VDC.

Cause

As confirmed by Mercury, the cause is a capacitor issue on a small number of units. EP1502 controllers that have a serial number greater than 1047950 are unaffected. MR52 panels that were ordered through Genetec™ after June 1, 2018 are unaffected.

Workaround

If you have an EP1502 controller with a serial number less than 1047950 or an MR52 panel that was ordered through Genetec™ before June 1, 2018, power them with 12 VDC.

Status

Contact the Genetec™ Technical Assistance Center at https://gtap.genetec.com. An RMA form will be issued to you if the problem cannot be resolved.
