[KBA-01059] “Unknown credential” events on a reader

This article explains why a reader might state that every credential is an Unknown credential, even if the credentials work properly with other readers.

Applies to: Security Center 5.2 - 5.7

Summary

A reader in a Security Center generates Unknown credential events when a card or PIN credential is presented to it. The same credentials are read properly when presented to other readers on the system.

More Information

If the credentials work without properly with other readers, possible causes might be:
  • The reader in question has its data wires (D0 and D1) inverted. Reversing them should resolve the issue.
  • Some readers add a preset facility code prefix to PIN credential reads, which causes them to be considered different credentials in Security Center. To prevent this, see the third-party documentation for that reader, and information on how to modify the preset facility code.
