How does Daylight Saving Time affect my archives?

Answer: Because the Archiver records video in GMT/UTC, the time change brought on by Daylight Saving Time (DST) does not affect the archiving of video recordings. However, archive queries made from time zones where DST applies, are affected.

Time changes do not prevent recording of video data from your cameras. The Archiver always records using the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which never changes according to the seasons, and archive queries are always transmitted to the server using UTC timestamps. This isolates the archives from the effects of time changes. However, because Security Desk and Config Tool can be configured to use and display a time zone other than UTC for which DST applies, such as Eastern Standard Time (EST), different behaviors can be observed whether the time is adjusted backward or forward.
