[KBA-01403] Deactivating and reactivating basic authentication for HTTP and RTSP protocol communication

This article explains how to activate and deactivate basic authentication for HTTP and RTSP protocol communication.

Summary

Starting in Security Center 5.3 SR3, an option was introduced in the Security Center InstallShield to deactivate basic authentication to ensure more secure communication between the Archiver and camera units. You can manually activate or deactivate basic authentication in the Archiver Advanced settings.

More Information

To activate or deactivated basic authentication:

  1. In Config Tool, select System and open the Archiver to configure.
  2. Click Resources > Advanced settings > Additional settings.

The RefuseBasicAuthentication key will have a value of 0 or 1, depending on the selection for basic authentication in the Security Center InstallShield.

  3. In the Value column, change the setting for RefuseBasicAuthentication as required.
    • To activate basic authentication, enter 0.
    • To deactivate basic authentication, enter 1.
  4. Click Close > Apply.
IMPORTANT: Basic authentication is an insecure way to exchange passwords. However, some camera manufacturers only support basic authentication mode. When basic authentication is deactivated, you cannot connect to those cameras in Security Center.
