[KBA-01302] Media Router role fails to start

This article explains why the Media Router role might be displayed in yellow and fail to start after a new Security Center installation.

After a new Security Center installation, the Media Router role is in yellow in the Roles view. When you click Diagnose, the following warnings are shown:
  • Role failed to start
  • RTSP Server failed to start
If you click the information button (), you can view a more detailed error message from the Genetecâ„¢ Event Viewer logs:
Role failed to start

This issue occurs when an application uses TCP Port 554. The Media Router role uses this as an RTSP port by default.

More Information

To resolve this issue:
  1. In Config Tool, open the System task.
  2. Click Roles > Media Router > Properties.
  3. Change the RTSP port option to a value other than 554, 555 (reserved for the Archiver role), or 560 (reserved for the Archiver redirector).
