[KBA-78988] Auxiliary Archiver role not archiving when video is encrypted in transit and is coming from a slow environment

This article explains why your video might not be archived by the Auxiliary Archiver role if the video stream is encrypted in transit and is coming from a slow Federation™ or an overloaded Archiver server.

Applies to: Security Center 5.8 GA

Symptoms

Sometimes when the video stream is encrypted in transit and is coming from a Federation™ or an overloaded Archiver server, the video is not being archived by the Auxiliary Archiver role.

Cause

When a video stream is encrypted in transit, the Auxiliary Archiver role must obtain the key from the Archiver role to decrypt the video, audio, or metadata streams. By default, the Auxiliary Archiver role waits 7.5 seconds to obtain the key after requesting it. If the video stream comes from a slow Federation™ or an overloaded Archiver server, 7.5 seconds might not be enough time and prevent the Auxiliary Archiver role from decrypting and archiving the stream.

Workaround

To prevent that the decryption from timing out next time, do the following:
  1. On the Auxiliary Archiver server, open the Server Admin.
  2. Next to the server name, click Actions > Console.
  3. In the Auxiliary Archiver commands section on the Debug Console page, click GenerateDefaultConfigFile.

The AuxiliaryArchiver.gconfig file is generated in the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Genetec Security Center 5.x\ConfigurationFiles.

  4. Open the file in Notepad and change the value of the maximumTimeBeforeCancellingDecryption setting to 1000000.
  5. Save the file.
  6. If you have multiple Auxiliary Archiver servers, copy the AuxiliaryArchiver.gconfig file to each server in the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Genetec Security Center 5.x\ConfigurationFiles.
  7. Restart the Auxiliary Archiver roles in Config Tool.

Status

This issue will be fixed in Security Center 5.8 SR1.
