[KBA-01457] Connection failed or Invalid Access to Memory Location errors are raised in Security Desk when running on 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2

This article explains how to resolve Connection failed or Invalid Access to Memory Location error messages in Security Desk.

Symptoms

Dragging a camera into the Monitoring task in Security Desk results in Connection failed or Invalid Access to Memory Location error messages, as shown below:

Cause

A bug in the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2 operating systems prevents SecurityDesk.exe, ArchiverAgent32.exe, and other 32-bit applications that are LargeAddressAware (capable of using more than 2 GB RAM) from operating correctly.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, apply the following Microsoft hotfix: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2588507.

NOTE: This hotfix is bundled with Security Center 5.3 and 5.4 installation packages, but should only be installed if you are running one of the 64-bit operating systems listed in the Microsoft KB.
