[KBA-00273] PTZ motor connected to Axis encoder cannot be controlled in Omnicast™

This article explains why you might be unable to control a PTZ that is connected to an Axis encoder in Omnicast™.

Symptoms

A new PTZ motor that is connected to an Axis encoder through its serial port does not work in Omnicast™. Control buttons are enabled in the Live Viewer and Config tool, but pan and tilt movements do not work.

This article applies to many Axis encoders, such as the Q24x or Q74xx series.

Cause

Serial ports of Axis encoder must be configured as "Generic TCP/IP".

Workaround

To get the PTZ control to work in Omnicast™, verify the following:

  1. Go to the Axis unit web page.
  2. Go to System Options > Ports & Devices > COM Port.
  3. In the Port Settings section, select the Enable port option, and then select the Generic TCP/IP option.

  4. Set the Listener port to 1080.
  5. Click Save.
