[KBA-00586] Omnicast™ client applications take a long time to connect

This article explains why the Omnicast™ client applications take a long time to connect to the server.

Symptoms

The Omnicast™ client applications take a long time to connect to the server.

Cause

The Omnicast™ client applications perform DNS queries of all servers in the Omnicast™ system upon logon. Therefore, the connection time is dependent of the DNS' ability to answer. Longer DNS responses show high delays when connecting to the system.

Workaround

To optimize connection time, edit the Windows host file on the workstation:
  1. Open Windows Explorer on the workstation.
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
  3. Right-click and edit the host file.
  4. Enter the IP of each server in the Omnicast™ system along with their names.
  5. Save and close the file.
