You can postpone the arming of intrusion detection areas by presenting an authorized badge to a valid reader, or by using the BuyTime widget in the Security Desk Monitoring task. Arming is postponed for the amount of time defined by the BuyTime period.

What you should know

You must be granted the Postpone arming schedule privilege.
NOTE: Specified cardholders can badge to disarm an area that is already armed. Disarming the area starts the BuyTime period.

Procedure

  1. From the Security Desk home page, open the Monitoring task.
  2. From the area view, double-click the intrusion detection areas to display them on the canvas.
The BuyTime widget displays the arming schedule state of the current tile. When the arming schedule becomes active, the BuyTime widget displays how much time remains in the BuyTime period.

  3. In the BuyTime widget, click Postpone arming schedule () to trigger the extension.
NOTE: To postpone the arming of multiple intrusion detection areas at once, multi-select the areas in the area view, and click the Postpone arming schedule command from the contextual menu.
When the extension is triggered, the BuyTime widget displays the time remaining before the intrusion detection area is armed. The user who postponed the arming is displayed under the countdown.
NOTE: If a cardholder badges to disarm the area, the cardholder's name appears in the widget.

Example

The general configuration of the arming profile shown in the following image is used in the example scenario.

In this scenario, the arming profile is set to be active from 10 pm to 8 am.

  1. At 10 pm, the arming profile becomes active.
    • The first BuyTime (grace) period starts.
    • You have 5 minutes to request an extension.
    • At 10:05 pm, if no one has requested an extension, the area is armed until 8 am.
  2. You postpone the arming schedule at 10:01 pm. The extension starts and you have one extra hour before the next BuyTime period starts.
  3. At 11:01, the second BuyTime period starts.
    • You have 5 minutes to request an extension.
  4. You postpone the arming schedule at 11:02 pm. The second extension starts and you have one extra hour before the intrusion detection area is armed.
  5. At 12:02, no BuyTime period starts because you are only allowed to request an extension twice. The area is armed until 8 am.
