Before you can monitor KiwiVision™ video analytics in Security Desk, you must configure intrusion detector areas settings for your camera.

What you should know

You can add multiple areas to monitor for intrusion. An area consists of an alarm region and optional source regions. All parameters specified on the right side (Min. speed, Min. detection size, and so on) are area-specific and can be set for each area individually to fine tune the scene.

Perimeter protection mode has three regions:

A green source region (entry point), a yellow transport region, and a red alarm region (exit point).

Perimeter protection mode is used when you want to detect and analyze movement from one region to another. The movement begins in the green source region (entry point), travels through the yellow transport region, and ends in the red alarm region (exit point).

Area protection mode is the default intrusion analytic and has only one region: the red alarm region.

Area protection mode is used when you want to detect and analyze movement in the alarm region only.

NOTE: When you enable the Overlays in Security Desk additional KiwiVision™ overlays are displayed.
  • Areas are shown with a yellow bounding box.
  • When an area is triggered the bounding box color changes to orange.
  • When an object or a person is detected, the detection is highlighted by a green bounding box..
  • When an alert is raised, the detection that caused the alert is highlighted by a red bounding box.

Procedure

  1. In Config Tool select your intrusion detector.
  2. (Optional) Enable or disable Show movement grid as required.

    Displays additional KiwiVision™ video analytics information. This includes active alerts, velocity, path deviation, travel distance, and other analytics information.
  3. In the Areas tab, configure the region objects.

  4. Modify regions as required.
    1. Click and drag the white dots to adjust single points of the source region or the alarm region.
    2. Click and drag a region to move the region to the location in the scene that you require.
    3. Click on a line of the region to create a point, drag to move a point, or double click to delete a point.
    4. (Optional) Use the Areas toolbar to perform the following:
      • Add areas ()
      • Add source () or alarm regions ()
      • Remove the selected area, the selected region, or the selected point ()
        Tip: This can also be done with the delete button on the keyboard.
      IMPORTANT: Adding an Area automatically adds an area with an alarm region. Deleting an area will delete all the area settings.
  5. In the Areas tab, configure the area settings.
    Area name
    Specifies the name of the area. If multiple areas exist, the name of the currently selected area is displayed.
  6. In the Tracking section, configure the Tracking settings as required:
    Min. speed
    Specifies the minimum speed of an object or person in the image region that can trigger an alert. You can specify values in the range 0.01 - 3 m/s (0.033 - 9.9 ft/s).
    NOTE: The velocity estimation is based on the configured perspective and depends on the accuracy of the configuration.
    Max. speed
    Specifies the maximum speed of an object or person in the image region that can trigger an alert. When this maximum speed is exceeded no alert is triggered. You can specify values in the range 1 - 100 m/s (3 - 327 ft/s).
    Min travel distance
    Specifies the distance that an object or person must travel in the image to be considered active motion and trigger an alert. You can specify values in the range 0.1 - 10 m (0.3 - 33 ft).
    NOTE: The distance is estimated based on the configured perspective, which might result in inaccuracies.
  7. In the Alert section, configure the Alert settings as required:
    Min. time between alerts
    Specifies that after an alert is sent for an area, additional alerts that are specific to that area are suppressed until the specified time period has elapsed. You can specify values in the range 1 - 100 seconds. Using a low value ensures that multiple alerts that are part of a single real-life event are captured. Using a high value might suppress valid alerts that happen quickly after one another.
    Alert activation time
    Specifies how long an alert must be detected for before it is sent. A high value filters out camera noise, but might result in missed alerts. You can specify values in the range 0.1 - 10 seconds.
    NOTE: If an intruding object in the scene reaches the Min. speed, does not exceed the Max. speed, takes at least the Min. travel and moves within the Max. deviation angle along the defined path for at least the period of time specified for the Alert activation time, then an alarm will be triggered.
    Min. detection size
    Specifies how much of the object size area has to be active in the alarm region (exit point) to trigger an alert. You can specify values in the range 10 - 100 %.
    NOTE: If this parameter is set to a low value, small motion patterns (such as those of animals) are detected as well. If this parameter is set to a high value, it can result in missed detections of objects or individuals.
    Detection clustering
    Suppresses alerts that are triggered by scattered movements in the image, such as motion caused by camera noise.
    NOTE: Using this option can lead to missing valid alerts if the movement is not clearly detected.
  8. Click Apply.

After you finish

(Optional) You can now configure your intrusion detector Paths tab settings if you want to define one or more paths in the video to specify the direction of travel that you want to analyze.
NOTE: Paths are not mandatory and can be ignored if not required.
