To change the frequency that the Modbus plugin polls devices, you must set the Data polling interval in Security Center.

What you should know

By default, the polling interval is set to 500 milliseconds.

The ideal polling frequency is determined by your application and the number of inputs to monitor. An industrial application, such as monitoring the temperature of a volatile compound, requires frequent monitoring. While monitoring the temperature of the offices in a building can be done less frequently.

The smaller the polling frequency, the more CPU resources the plugin uses; consequently, the fewer rules and inputs a single plugin can monitor. These limitations are imposed by the processing power of the computer that hosts the plugin.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool home page, open the Plugins task.
  2. Select the Modbus plugin role from the entity browser, and click the Entities tab.
  3. In the Advanced settings section, set the polling frequency.
The minimum value is 250 milliseconds. The maximum value is 999999999 milliseconds.
  4. Click Apply.

Results

The plugin polls all data points at the configured frequency.
