[KBA-00576] Serial port stops working after Axis unit is added to Failover Archiver in Omnicast™

This article explains why an Axis unit’s serial port stops working after the unit is added to a failover archiver in Omnicast™.

Symptoms

After adding an Axis unit to a failover archiver, the serial port stops working. If there is a PTZ or keyboard connected to the serial port, those devices will also stop working.

Cause

If the serial port mode is configurable in the Config Tool (RS-422, RS-485), the serial port mode changes back to its default setting when it is added to the failover archiver due to a communication issue.

Workaround

Do one of the following:
  • After adding the unit to the failover archiver, use Config Tool to change the serial port mode to something else and then back again.

For example, if the serial port mode was set to RS-485 2-wire, change it to RS-422, apply the change, and then change it back to RS-485 2-wire.

  • Restart the main archiver after adding the unit to the failover archiver.
IMPORTANT: All the units on the archiver will be offline during the restart.

Status

This issue will be fixed in a future release.
