The Security Center Vehicle Monitoring plugin, previously known as the GPS plugin, is installed on the vehicle system. This plugin collects telematics, GPS information, and other sensor data as GPS (Global Positioning System) entities. This plugin also gathers health information from on-board cameras and other Security Center server components.

Vehicle Monitoring is used in combination with Fleet Monitoring to monitor fleets of vehicles. The two plugins can be described as follows:
  • Vehicle Monitoring plugin (also known as the GPS plugin): Installed on the vehicle system, this plugin collects telematics, GPS information, and other sensor data as GPS (Global Positioning System) entities. This plugin provides information on status of on-board cameras and archivers running on the Security Center server.
  • Fleet Monitoring plugin (also known as the AVL plugin): Installed on the headend system, this plugin aggregates the location, accelerometer, input, and camera data into a new entity, called an AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator) entity. You can also use the plugin to view vehicles on maps, monitor of the overall health of the fleet, offload video and other data from vehicles, and export data to other systems like Genetec Clearance.
You can use Vehicle Monitoring to do the following:
  • Monitor vehicle location in real time
  • Raise events, and bookmark and protect videos based on metadata matches
  • Configure GPS units with input/output devices which automatically create metadata key and value pair
  • Trigger notifications based on geofence triggers
  • Respond to incidents quickly and effectively
  • Notify users of system issues on board
  • Monitor GPS unit states
  • View camera quick statuses
