The SharpV connects to the network, using a standard CAT5e network cable (not included). Consult this list of specifications when selecting and preparing the network cable.

Network cable power
Power is supplied to the SharpV through the network cable, using PoE+. Power the network cable, using one of the following methods:- PoE+ switch or router: Connect a network cable that has a maximum length of 100 m (330 ft) to a PoE+ (Power-over-Ethernet; 802.3at Type 2 (25.5 W)) Ethernet switch port.
- PoE+ power injector: If you are using a non-PoE switch, a PoE+ injector needs to be added between the SharpV and the switch. The total length of the network cable that runs between the SharpV and the switch must not exceed 100 m (330ft).
PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at compliant) power sources can negotiate the power delivery using these two methods:
- Hardware-based two-event classification
- Power injectors typically (but not exclusively) use this method. Installations that use this method generally do not require any additional configuration.
- Software-based LLDP classification
- PoE+ switches typically (but not exclusively) use this method.
- The switch administrator must ensure that PoE+ power is enabled in the switch configuration for the ports that are connected with a SharpV camera.
- You might also have to enable PoE+ power delivery in addition to the LLDP classification. For example, in some switches, the 25.5 W of power needs to be pre-reserved for that port.
- The LLDP classification, which might also be referred to as 802.3at TLVs, LLDP POE, data link-layer classification, or power-over-MDI, must be enabled in the switch configuration, if applicable.
- LLDP must be enabled for the SharpV to participate in data link layer classification which is mandatory for all Type 2 powered devices (>13.0 W). Specifically, Power via MDI Type, Length, Value (TLV) messages must be enabled. For more information, see IEEE 802.3 Clause 33.6.1.
Lightning protection
The SharpV includes basic lightning surge protection. PoE+ injectors, and PoE+ switches are usually equipped with basic lightning surge protection (verify hardware specifications). For installations in areas that are subject to frequent high-energy lightning surges, it is recommended to protect the network cable using one or more of the following additional protective measures:- A grounded metallic conduit.
- An external surge protector that is compatible with Gigabit Ethernet (1000BT) PoE+ systems (Power-over-Ethernet; 802.3at Type 2 (25.5 W)).
- A shielded Ethernet cable that has a grounded RJ45 connector at the PoE+ injector or PoE+ Ethernet switch.
