For optimal performance on your Security Center computers, remove unnecessary applications that might run in the background and disable unnecessary services.
General optimization
- Uninstall any software that is not needed on the server and workstation, including
manufacturer-installed software.
It is especially important to remove utility programs that are not in use. Although programs such as virus scanners, disk cleaners, and backup tools run in the background, they often run automatically at startup. As a result, these types of programs consume resources without being noticed.
- Reduce resource use by disabling the services of any applications that are not being used.
Workstation optimizations
- If multiple users are sharing the same machine, always have the previous user log off before the next user logs on. Keeping multiple Windows sessions open (with Switch user) with Security Desk or Config Tool open might cause unexpected issues.
- Make sure that all monitors are configured with the same aspect ratio if you want to run Security Desk in full-screen mode. If not, Security Desk might not apply the correct aspect ratio to all monitors.
Server optimizations
- In Windows, disable file indexing on drives that are used to store video. File indexing is enabled by default.
-
If Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is enabled on your
server, install SQL
Server on a drive that is separate from the system drive (typically the C:
drive), and ensure that VSS only takes snapshots of the system
drive.
CAUTION:Do not disable VSS. Disabling VSS interferes with the operation of Windows System Restore.
Each version of Windows has a different way of removing applications and turning off services. For more information, see the Microsoft Support website: https://support.microsoft.com.
