Many types of cameras, video units, or access control units do not support DHCP. To include these units in your Security Center you must plan your addressing scheme accordingly.

It is highly recommended to use static IP addresses for all servers, client stations, and devices connected to Security Center.

However, it is possible to use DHCP if one or both of the following conditions are met:
  • If hostnames (DNS) are supported by all the devices in your system. Verify with your manufacturer's documentation to see if this feature is supported.
  • If you can set exclusions in the range of consecutive IP addresses that make up the local IP subnet for which you are enabling the DHCP service. The IP addresses of the devices that do not support DNS must be in the excluded range. By setting an exclusion range for these addresses, you specify that DHCP clients are never offered these addresses when they request an IP address from the server, thus avoiding conflicts.
