When configuring a camera for use with the Flexreader™ plugin, it is important to configure the video stream resolution. The minimum video stream resolution for an ALPR camera is 800 x 600.

When setting the stream resolution, consider the following:
  • A large video stream resolution helps to provide images with license plates characters that are large enough for license plate recognition (see Installation distance for Flexreader™ cameras).
  • Setting a large video stream resolution increases the bandwidth required to send the images to Security Center.
  • If you need to capture license plates that are at varying positions with respect to the camera, you may need to increase the field of view.
  • Compression algorithms can sometimes cause artifacts to appear in the ALPR image. This can distort plate characters, resulting in missed plate reads. If your plate reads include artifacts like the ones shown below, adjust the bit rate and video quality in the camera's settings to produce a clear image.

The resolution of the video stream can be configured on the Video page in Config Tool.

NOTE: In the plugin camera configuration, select the desired stream usage (which will be used to perform the license plate recognition) from the streams configured in the Video page in the Config Tool Video task.
