This deployment guide provides information for all SharpZ3 deployment types. Use the following deployment overview to install and configure a SharpZ3 system for law enforcement.

Preparing for the deployment

These are the tasks to perform before you go on site for the deployment. If you cannot complete the tasks on this checklist, contact your AutoVu™ representative.

Step Task Description Where to find more information
1 Fill out the AutoVu™ Deployment Questionnaire. The questionnaire helps you collect the information required to deploy the system.
2 Read the product related release notes. The release notes contain information about the current releases, as well as any known issues or limitations.
3 Install Security Center. Security Center receives reads from Genetec Patroller™ software.
4 (Optional) Install BeNomad maps. BeNomad provides the SharpZ3 system with maps and reverse geocoding information.
5 Configure the ALPR Manager role in Security Center. The ALPR Manager is the role that manages and controls the patrol vehicles running Genetec Patroller™ software.
6 Configure the Archiver role in Security Center. The Archiver is the role that stores video streams and ALPR images.
7 (Optional) Configure hotlists. To use hotlist entities in Security Center, you must create the hotlist, map it to a source text file, and configure it for your enforcement scenario.

On site tasks

These are the tasks to perform while on site. If you can’t complete the tasks on this checklist, contact your AutoVu™ representative.

Step Task Description Where to find more information
2 Install the SharpZ3 base unit in the vehicle. You can mount the base unit anywhere inside the vehicle that is safe, secure, and has good airflow.
4 Install the SharpZ3 cameras on the vehicle. Depending on the hardware ordered, systems can support either two or four SharpZ3 cameras.
5 Install and configure the in-vehicle computer. The in-vehicle computer must be powered through the base unit's auxiliary 8A Max relay.
6 Install a certificate to secure the Sharp Portal. SharpZ3 cameras must communicate using TLS encryption (HTTPS) using either the certificate that is auto-generated on the SharpZ3, a new self-signed certificate, or a signed certificate from your own public key infrastructure (PKI) or from a Certificate Authority such as VeriSign.
8 Configure SharpZ3 analytics. You can configure which plates the SharpZ3 will read, and whether the system should attempt to read the plate origin, vehicle make, vehicle type and color, and so on.
9 Install Genetec Patroller™. Genetec Patroller™ is the AutoVu™ software application installed on an in-vehicle computer. Genetec Patroller™ connects to Security Center and is controlled by the ALPR Manager.
10 Connect the SharpZ3 system to Genetec Patroller™. If Genetec Patroller™ does not connect to Security Center, you must offload license plate reads manually using a USB key.
11 Configure Genetec Patroller™. There are many tasks that must be performed to configure Genetec Patroller™, such as configuring your offload settings, connecting to Security Center, and so on.
12 Align the SharpZ3 cameras. You must align your SharpZ3 cameras using the AutoVu™ Alignment Kit so they can read plates accurately.
13 Complete the installation. At the end of the installation you should test the system to ensure that the hardware is functional, and perform a read report to test performance.
