Each GUS is autonomous and performs updates on the local machine. To facilitate the update process, the Main GUS displays a centralized view of enrolled machines and can send update notifications to them.

The Main GUS can also be configured as a proxy. The enrolled machines will use the proxy to receive updates from the cloud.

There are three ways to configure GUS. The settings available depend on where GUS is installed.

Main GUS
If the machine has a Security Center Directory installed, it will automatically have a Main GUS. The Main GUS can add or reject machines that are pending enrollment. Once enrolled, the Main GUS can send install update notifications. For more information, see Enrolling machines in Genetec Update Service.
Server or Workstation
A machine that was enrolled by the Main GUS. A server or workstation can only download and install updates locally.
Standalone
A machine that was not enrolled by the Main GUS. A Standalone machine can only download and install updates locally.
