SharpOS can extract information from the SharpV ALPR and context cameras such as the vehicle color and vehicle make. This metadata can be included in the license plate reads sent to Security Center or exported to a third-party system.

Character height

By default, the camera detects license plates that are close (100 pixels) or far away (17 pixels). In an installation such as an access control gate, plate read accuracy is more important than the detection of distant license plates. In this case, you can restrict the filter range to detect license plates only when vehicles are near the gate.

For more information, see Filtering plates based on character height for SharpV cameras.

Confidence score

The camera can assign a confidence score to license plate reads. This value is given as a percentage and indicates how confident the system is in the accuracy of the read.
NOTE: License plates that contain similar characters such as 8 and B are more difficult to read and generally produce reads with a lower confidence score.

For information on how to enable the confidence score analytic, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

Confidence score for ALPR analytics

Some analytics involve direct measurement, for example character height. For other analytics, the results might not be as clear. For example, with the vehicle color analytic, it might be difficult to differentiate between certain colors in certain lighting. For analytics like this, an additional confidence score is included in the license plate read.

The following analytics include a confidences score:

  • State Name
  • Vehicle Make
  • Vehicle Color
  • Vehicle Type
  • Vehicle Hitch
  • Vehicle Orientation
  • Vehicle Rear Attachment
  • Vehicle Spare Tire
  • Vehicle typeV2

Plate tilt

You can configure the camera to ignore license plates when the angle of the plate is outside a certain range.
Fixed SharpV cameras
In a fixed camera installation, vehicles generally pass in front of the camera at the same angle. In this case, you can set the plate tilt filter to ignore text appears at a different angle. For example, the lettering on the side of delivery vehicles would generally be at a different angle to the license plate characters.
Mobile SharpZ3 cameras
For parking enforcement vehicles that monitor on-street parking, you can configure the plate tilt feature to exclude vehicles parked in driveways based on the angle of the license plate.

For more information, see Filtering plates based on plate tilt for SharpV cameras.

Relative motion

The camera can detect whether the vehicle is approaching or moving away.

You can add the relative motion analytic column in the Security Desk Reads reports and Hits reports.

For more information, see Investigating reported hits.

The relative motion analytic outputs the following results:

  • Approaching
  • Moving away

State

The camera determines where the license plate is from. Depending on the region, this can be the issuing state, province, or country. For more information on the supported plate origins that are available in the State analytic, see Supported plate origin recognition.

For information on how to enable the State analytic, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

Vehicle color

The camera can detect the color of the vehicle associated with the license plate read.

For information on how to enable the vehicle color analytic, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

The vehicle color analytic outputs the following results:

NOTE:
  • At night, the system cannot detect color and only outputs Light, Neutral, and Dark.
  • If the color cannot be identified, the system gives the value "-".
  • Black
  • Blue
  • Brown
  • Green
  • Gray
  • Orange
  • Red

  • Dark Blue
  • Dark Brown
  • Dark Green
  • Dark Grey
  • Dark Orange
  • Dark Red
  • Dark Yellow

Vehicle accessories

The camera can detect vehicle accessories that might help with positive identification of a vehicle.

NOTE:
  • The vehicle accessories analytics are available for SharpV units only.
  • Using the vehicle accessories feature increases CPU usage and can affect the frame rate.
  • If a vehicle accessory cannot be identified, the system gives the value "-".
Vehicle hitch
The camera detects if there is a hitch on the back of the vehicle.

To detect vehicle hitches, you must turn on the vehicle accessories analytic. For information, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

The vehicle hitch analytic outputs the following results:

  • Ball
  • No
  • Empty receiver
  • Protected receiver
Vehicle rear attachment
The camera detects if there is a vehicle accessory such as a bicycle rack on the back of the vehicle. The read includes a Yes or No indicating whether an accessory was detected.

To detect rear attachments, you must turn on the vehicle accessories analytic. For information, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

Vehicle spare tire
The camera detects if there is a spare tire on the back of the vehicle. The read includes a Yes or No indicating whether a spare tire was detected.

To detect spare tires, you must turn on the vehicle accessories analytic. For information, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

Vehicle make

The camera can determine the vehicle make by detecting the logo on the vehicle.

For information on how to enable the vehicle make analytic, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

The vehicle make analytic outputs the following results:

NOTE: If the vehicle make cannot be identified, the system gives the value "-".
  • Acura
  • Audi
  • BMW
  • Buick

Vehicle orientation

The camera determines which part of the vehicle was in view at the time of the plate read.

To detect vehicle orientation, you must turn on the vehicle type, color, and orientation analytic. For information, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

The vehicle orientation analytic outputs the following results:

NOTE: If the vehicle orientation cannot be identified, the system gives the value "-".
  • Back
  • BackSide
  • Front
  • FrontSide
  • Side

Vehicle type

The camera can identify the vehicle type based on the shape of the vehicle.

The system uses two versions of the vehicle type analytic; Vehicle type and Vehicle typeV2. To detect the vehicle type, you must turn on the vehicle type, color, and orientation analytic. For information, see Configuring SharpV analytics.

The Vehicle type analytic outputs the following results:

NOTE: If the vehicle type cannot be identified, the system gives the value "-".
  • Bus
  • Motorcycle
  • Passenger vehicle
